Case Study
MCG Construction |AR-WasteScan
MCG Construction is a leading construction services provider, specialising in project management, subcontractor coordination, and site logistics across major developments in London and beyond. With a strong focus on efficiency and compliance, MCG Construction ensures that resources, including waste management, are effectively tracked and optimized to support sustainable building practices.

Enhancing Waste Bin Tracking and Accountability for MCG Construction
MCG Construction required a system to track waste bins allocated to subcontractors across multiple high-profile construction sites in London. The system needed to record the type of waste expected in each bin, ensure secure allocation using a PIN system, and track bin returns, including weight and waste type compliance. If incorrect waste was disposed of, this needed to be logged to allow for accurate cost adjustments.
We implemented a cloud-based version of our AR-Tracker system, utilizing rugged barcodes affixed to each bin and mobile barcode scanners for efficient allocation and tracking. In 2024, we further developed the system to allow subcontractors secure access to their waste records, alongside a modern dashboard for real-time insights.
Rugged Barcodes
Durable polypropylene barcodes permanently affixed to bins for reliable tracking.
Mobile barcode readers
Handheld barcode readers are used to allocate and record bin movements on-site
AR-TRACKER Client Software
A cloud-based interface providing real-time waste tracking and reporting, with a separate login for clients to see their own dashboards.
Cloud-Hosted SQL Server Database
A cloud based SQL Server database was chosen to ensure fast, reliable data access while maintaining full control over security, performance, and system integration.

solution summary
MCG Construction needed an efficient way to track which subcontractors were assigned waste bins and ensure proper usage.
The Solution
Our AR-Tracker system uses rugged barcodes and mobile scanners to allocate bins, ensuring clear tracking and reducing the risk of misplacements.
There was no way to verify if bins contained the correct waste type, leading to incorrect disposal and potential cost discrepancies.
The Solution
The system records the expected waste type at allocation and logs discrepancies upon return, allowing accurate billing for incorrect waste disposal.
Subcontractors had no visibility into their own waste bin usage, making tracking and accountability difficult.
The Solution
In 2024, we introduced secure subcontractor logins, enabling them to access their bin allocation, waste type records, and return statuses for improved transparency.
MCG Construction lacked a centralized system to assess bin usage, outstanding returns, and overall waste management efficiency.
The Solution
A modern dashboard now provides real-time insights, including allocation charts, outstanding bins, and return summaries, streamlining waste management operations.
